Update 1/19/2019:   We cannot stress enough the importance that if you are going to buy something from someone online or elsewhere, and you do not know the individual very well or at all, please meet them at a police station to exchange goods/money. Do not meet with anyone who wants to meet you in a secluded area or an area you are not familiar with. We will be watching report #181023243 very closely to see if the “known” suspect is arrested.  We are also asking that members of the community who live around Independence Park, please continue to call on ALL suspicious activity. You are our front line eyes and ears that help us keep our park clean and free of criminal activity.

Unfortunately there has not been a documented update in regards to the Subway robbery, report #190018619

Shopping

Update 1/7/2019 from RPD: During the holiday shopping season, Reynoldsburg Police Department took several proactive steps to reduce crime in the Taylor Square Shopping Area. This included crime prevention signs, a watchtower and increased patrols. In 2017, between November 1st and December 27th, 19 thefts from autos were reported in the area. During the same time period in 2018 there were only six reported thefts from autos. During the two weeks the watchtower was deployed in the Taylor Square Shopping Area there were no reported thefts from autos. This watchtower was staffed by RPD officers at various times. Officers also had the ability to remotely access the four cameras on the watchtower 24 hours a day. We are always looking for ways to make our community the best!

Update 1/19/2019:  We had 46 online reports from 12/1/2018 to 1/11/2018. Now before anyone goes in to a panic reading this, please keep in mind that these crime reports cover a 4.5 square mile radius, with a population exceeding 5,000, over a period of 41 days. Of those 46 reports, 7 were businesses with 3 additional crimes taking place on Brice Rd. and Tussing Rd. 36 reports were residential, with 23 of those reports being spread out between 10 different apartment complexes of more than 1,500 apartments. The 13 remaining crimes were spread out over 7 subdivisions of over 3,500 single family homes.

Still feeling a little uneasy? These numbers mean that in 41 days, CPD took approximately 1.12 crime reports a day from less than 1% (.0092) of the TBW’s entire population.

Keep making those calls to CPD! The more calls we make = the more we can justify more officers = better response time = less crime!

So, in addition to the updates we have provided here, we will attempt to respond with updates to each post individually so that individuals following those specific posts, will be sure to see the updates. If you feel I have forgotten to cover a topic or you have additional questions, please let me know.

Update 11/26/2018:  I apologize as some of this information may be duplicated, however many are still failing to take the necessary steps to protect their property and/or our community, and to report all suspicious activities and crime.

Please REMEMBER, crime goes up this time of year as criminals look for easy grabs leading up to Christmas. It is important to know that we are NOT the only community facing vehicle break ins, thefts of packages and/or decorations. As we get closer to Christmas we also expect to see criminals attempt to break in to homes as presents fill closets and under the trees. This is where we need YOU, our COMMUNITY to watch out for each other!! Be extra vigilant and aware of your surroundings, report EVERYTHING that looks suspicious. Please take ALL of our safety tips and suggestions seriously as we share them with all of you, because they work. We don’t want ANY of our community members to become a victim, but it takes the entire community working TOGETHER, to combat crime and suspicious activity within our community. But don’t forget that we are each responsible for doing our part! Here are some extra safety tips to help get US as a community through this holiday season and back on track:

- Good lighting will allow members of the community to better spot suspicious activity within the community.

- Know your neighbors and their routines. If something looks off, pay attention.

- If it doesn’t look right, take note of the suspect(s) description and/or vehicle make, model, color, and plate #, and REPORT IT to CPD at 614-645-4545 IMMEDIATELY, and then immediately post the information to our page, to alert the community.

- We NEED members to report EVERY crime and/or suspicious individual(s). These calls for service and reports are what justify for more officers to be allocated to our community. If more officers are not available, these numbers are what justify hiring more officers. We NEED these numbers.

- We recommend that ALL members mark your valuables and outside property using an ultraviolet marker, with your drivers license #. If the item stolen is recovered, that identification will allow the officers to return the property to you.

- Make your home look occupied! Inside/outside lights on random timers and a tv/radio that stays on are a good deterrent, followed by keeping blinds angled to prevent valuables from being seen.

- Check In with a neighbor/friend and have your house looked after if you are going to be gone for any length of time.

- Have packages delivered to a friend/neighbor who is expected to be home for the delivery and track packages so you know where/when they are.

- Many companies are now using rental vans/vehicles to make deliveries. If you see one on your street pay close attention that they are delivering and not stealing.

- DON’T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE OR LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE DOORS UNLOCKED, FOR ANY REASON.

- Change up your routine, drive around the block, keep an extra eye on both your home and those around you.

If you would like to offer any more safety tips, please do! However, from this point forward anyone discussing moving will have their comment deleted. This page is for community members to share safety/crime concerns and tips, in an effort to better our community, not to put it down. We have been in this place before, and we will be in it again. Why? Because of either crime patterns and/or residents not taking the necessary steps to protect themselves and/or their community. Don’t get discouraged though!! We are an AMAZING community that has accomplished so many amazing things, because of so MANY amazing people. We are all in this together and those who love this community, will continue to fight for this community.

Have a wonderful and safe evening everyone and Happy Holidays!
